On Style
On April 12th, I received my graduation certificate from Parsons X Teen Vogue. For those of you not familiar, the Parsons X Teen Vogue program is a new certification program in Fashion Industry Essentials.
When you sign up, you do everything online and have up to one year to complete it. The certification has five sections: Unlocking Visual Style, Thinking Like a Designer, Understanding Fashion Production, Working in Fashion Media and Developing Fashion Marketing and PR Skills. These give people interested in fashion an overview about what each aspect of the industry is like. The sections are all helpful no matter your primary fashion interest. For example, you may know for sure you are not a fashion designer (I definitely struggled with those assignments), but the design course allows you to still understand what a designer does which is critical for any fashion career.
Each section has videos from industry professionals (such as Aliza Licht, Marina Larroude, etc.), a communication board for discussing with other students and an assignments portion. All assignments must be completed to earn the certificate. If you do plan on completing this certification, take your time doing these assignments and networking with other students. Some assignments even include going to the mall and going shopping (every fashionista’s dream). Everything in this program is for YOUR benefit and you can choose to be as invested as you want. By the end of the program, you have a complete portfolio you can submit to jobs! The portfolio is also reviewed by a member of Parsons staff and they give you feedback. Here is my portfolio cover!
Overall, I think this program is a steal for the cost! I learned so much about how the fashion industry works and what career options are available in it. This program also gives you things like the portfolio and the certificate that you can use to apply for jobs.
Please feel to ask me any questions in the comments! The full tuition cost is currently at $549 in total or it can be broken up into payment plans. If you are interested in signing up, use my link or the code KELSEY2 for a $50 off discount. http://ssqt.co/LvZO

I am really interested in this program and am looking into signing up, I was wondering could I submit 2 codes for this course? I have a code given to me from the application website.

Glad to hear you are interested! I think it only lets you use one so use the one that is valued at more first, but you can certainly try to use both! The cost is a steal to begin with!

I’m also doing the certificate, how long did it took for them to send you the certificate online? And did they gave a feedback from the portfolio? Did you really add every single item on it, or just the really good ones?

You get your certificate around 3-5 days after you submit your portfolio. They give you feedback on every aspect of your portfolio. I think you are only supposed to have 4 pages on it so it is only your highlighted work.

It is more of a separate thing, but if you are applying to a fashion school/program then this would definitely help!

You choose what to put in it at the end of the program! It’s usually like a 4-5 page PowerPoint or presentation format including a cover page. A lot of people usually put their resume as one page too. The other 2-3 pages are just meant to showcase your work and focus in fashion.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Does either Teen Vogue or Parsons keep the “rights” to use your work?

I am not sure, I know that is typically the case. There was nothing from there that I wanted to really keep so I was fine with however they used it.

Hi Kelsey
I came across your review about this online program. Some your certificate was given in 2016, I was wondering how soon were you able to find a job in your field of study?

I am currently pursuing some other interests, but I was able to obtain two internships in the fashion industry in NYC with this certification. Typically with fashion you must do internships before getting a job regardless of educational background.

what is the duration of each video in this program?

You really make it seem sso easy along with your presentation but I in finding this
topic to be actually one thing which I believe I would by no means understand.
It sort of feels too complicated and very wide for me.
I am having a look forward on your next submit, I’ll attempt to get the cling of it!
