Off Duty / On Style
I honestly do not understand how a month possibly went this fast. The fact that this marks the end of June means that I only have about five more weeks left in NYC, making this the midpoint. It’s definitely going much faster than I would like it to but I’ve been trying to soak up every single second of it. Here is what I’ve been loving while living in a New York state of mind!
ZARA is definitely one of my new favorite stores. I had shopped online before but going to an in-person store is even better. I have gotten a bunch of high-quality internship/work clothes there that I can style to be dressy or casual at reasonable pricing especially with their recent big sale. The shirt on the left is a pleated white button up, which is a great way to put a fun twist on the classic staple. I am OBSESSED with the item on the right, it has a funky geometric print and it looks like a dress in the front but it’s actually a romper, which is so comfortable!
Personally, I was skeptical of trying the bandana trend, but I found this one at Forever 21 and I love it. The base color is black but the colors are bold and vibrant. You can tie it multiple ways and it is an awesome accessory to quickly spice up an outfit.
I don’t know why this lipstick showed up darker in my photos, but it is a matte dusty rose color that works perfectly for everyday. I am really into nude/pink tones, but this one is by far my new favorite. It is the Studded Kiss Lipstick in the shade Lolita by Kat Von D.
(Stay tuned for a separate blog post for the food that I have gone out and eaten in NYC, these are my “at home” staples)
When I found out my living arrangements for the summer, I was overjoyed to discover that there was a Trader Joe’s located just around the corner from me as it is my absolute favorite grocery store. Unfortunately, it’s the rest of New York’s too, the lines usually wrap around the entire store. However, I did manage to find this Banana Bonanza Bread. I don’t have an oven in my dorm this summer so cooking banana bread is not an option, but this stuff is just as good. I love to put some peanut butter on it or eat a couple of slices for lunch!
My other Trader Joe’s discovery were these ice cream sandwiches. I LOVE chipwiches, but two cookies plus ice cream, that’s not very healthy. Luckily, Trader Joe’s sells this alternative for around fourth of the usual amount of calories and way less fat. I obviously still don’t eat these every day but they are perfect for those days when I want more than just a square of dark chocolate for dessert.
I had the opportunity to meet James Franco, who has been my favorite actor for many, many years. From the days of Freaks and Geeks and Spiderman to his Oscar-nominated performance in 127 Hours, performing in Of Mice and Men on broadway and his newer works. I have loved them all. Beyond that, he is also incredible writer and true artist so I was very honored to meet him.
I saw my first concert in NYC which was for BRONCHO, an awesome rock band. It was at he Bowery Ballroom which was such a relaxed and fun venue. BRONCHO brought great energy to the stage and it was an amazing experience to hear them live with their funky instrumentals and their singer Ryan Lindsey’s unique voice. I love them even more now, check out Class Historian.
Coloring by Kevin Garrett is soulful, relaxing and just a beautiful listening experience. It’s a masterpiece really.
Another relaxing song that I love is Young by Vallis Alps. The pulsing beat and soothing vocals make this a track to listen to mellow out your workday or chill to before bed.
For something more upbeat, check out Hot Blur by How Sad. This is a great “hello weekend” song.
Here’s to another amazing month and second half of my NYC trip! Stay tuned for more.
