I first ate at Short Stack Eatery briefly after it opened a couple of years ago. I don’t remember specifically what I ordered, but I know it was some kind of pancakes (I think blueberry). Either way, I wasn’t overly thrilled by them so I didn’t feel the need to go back for awhile. After constantly walking past Short Stack’s huge line on the weekends, I decided to give it another go.
The atmosphere in Short Stack is adorable and filled with cute decor and quotes about how fantastic breakfast food is, covering all over the room. The table I sat at was even covered in various postcards. Overall, the charm of this place is great. They also have a cool concept where they open on Thursday morning and then stay open 24 hours until Sunday night. Now, onto the food.
You will be happy to hear that I loved my meal this time. Since I had bad luck on my previous trip, I took to Yelp to see what people were recommending. There was overwhelmingly the most posts about the sweet potato oatmeal pancakes. They sounded good so I figured why not?
These awesome spiced oatmeal cakes have real sweet potato in them. They are served with strawberries and a bourbon-maple mascarpone, which created an amazing balance of flavors. Since they come in with four pancakes, I did not need anything on the side so they were well worth their $8.50 price. After this meal, I definitely plan to return to get these again and hopefully try more of their menu. See their full prices and menu here.
