Brunch Quest: Cafe Hollander

Off Duty

I have worked right down the street from Cafe Hollander for months and I am so glad that I finally decided to stop in for brunch! The atmosphere is relaxed and full of cool decor details such as an indoor patio with large windows. Also, this post has an exciting twist as it is actually going to include what I had during two different visits here.

Brunch Quest: Short Stack Eatery

Off Duty

I first ate at Short Stack Eatery briefly after it opened a couple of years ago. I don’t remember specifically what I ordered, but I know it was some kind of pancakes (I think blueberry). Either way, I wasn’t overly thrilled by them so I didn’t feel the need to go back for awhile. After constantly walking past Short Stack’s huge line on the weekends, I decided to give it another go.

Brunch Quest: Jack’s Wife Freda

Off Duty

I discovered Jack’s Wife Freda through their seriously drool-worthy Instagram account and knew that it was a must go-to place for me in the city. For those who have not been here or seen the account, their food displays are always bright, colorful and organized in an aesthetically pleasing way. The food is Mediterranean style and they serve lunch/dinner as well, but, of course, I was most drawn to their brunch menu. Upon arriving, I noticed that their decor was just as cute as I could have imagined. The staff was also very friendly, which helped make for a positive experience.

Brunch Quest: Egg Shop

Off Duty

Unless you’re new here, you already know about my obsession with brunch so needless to say I am quite excited (and overwhelmed) by the assortment of brunch options in NYC. Due to the priciness of brunch here (and food in general), I wanted to pick something to start with that I was confident that I would like based on the menu and reputation. This caused me to land on the Egg Shop. This restaurant is a cute little place located at 151 Elizabeth Street. The wait? Not so cute. Almost two hours to be exact for a group of three people. Of course, it isn’t so bad when you can just put your name in and then go shopping in Soho for a bit but still.

Brunch Quest: Dlux

Off Duty

As a huge fan of Dlux’s dinner menu with mouthwatering burgers and one of a kind sweet potatoes fries, I was excited to hear that they also serve brunch. First off, for those who haven’t been there, the atmosphere in Dlux is awesome, very cool and modern. I started off my brunch by ordering an espresso milkshake, which tasted amazing. I don’t think it woke me up that much, but I would still recommend it especially if you haven’t had a Dlux milkshake before.

Brunch Quest: Marigold Kitchen

Off Duty

Bright, creative and cozy are words I would use to describe this little cafe in Madison, WI. Marigold Kitchen is located by the Capitol and offers a wide range of healthy menu options serving breakfast, brunch and lunch. It even was voted best breakfast by the community for Madison Magazine in 2015. I ordered a chorizo omelette which had chorizo sausage, sweet corn relish, cheddar cheese and cilantro. The omelette had just the right amount of spicy making it enjoyable but not eye-watering. On the side, it came with one piece of wheat toast and potatoes. The potatoes were delicious, but not my favorite of the breakfast potatoes I have tried from my brunch adventures.

Brunch Quest: Bradbury’s

Off Duty

Anyone who knows me well is aware that I have (a bit) of an obsession with brunch. This has inspired me to set out to find the best brunch spots, wherever I am. Since I am currently going to school in Madison, I knew I had to try Bradbury’s the moment I heard about it. The glowing reviews had me feeling excited yet slightly hesitant that it would not meet my expectations. I am by no means a food critic, but here are my thoughts on Bradbury’s!
