March Favorites

Off Duty / On Style

March has been a hectic month for me. From participating in events at UW Fashion Week to spring break, not a single day on my calendar was unmarked. Since I enjoy being busy, it was actually a good thing and it also gave me a lot of opportunities to test out new products. These are the products and items have impressed me this month.

BEAUTY

This product snuck in towards the end of the month, but it was a much-needed discovery. The Dream Velvet Soft-Matte Hydrating Foundation by Maybelline provides a matte face without sucking out your natural highlights and glow. I also have oily skin and do not even need to wear powder with this foundation, which is something I have never found before.

The Roller Lash Mascara by Benefit Cosmetics had been hyped up by countless reviewers and magazines, but I am happy to tell you it does not disappoint. By providing major curl and volume, there is no need to use your eyelash curler before applying this.

Believe it or not, this fragrance oil is actually from Whole Foods Market. They offer many options, but my favorite is Persian Garden. The smell is pretty impossible to describe, but it is honestly unlike anything I have ever smelled in the best way possible. A little of this goes a long way and it only costs $10!

Maybelline’s Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lipstick in Divine Wine is one of those colors that would probably look good on a wide range of people. For me, it provides the perfect punch of a deep berry color. It is also very moisturizing!

SKIN CARE

Go Grease Lightning! This tea tree and witch hazel gel from Lush is an awesome spot treatment for blasting away annoying blemishes.

HAIR

I just discovered that Victoria Secret PINK’s coconut oil seems to be discontinued from the store, but you might be able to find it online somewhere or certain stores. If you can, this coconut oil not only smells amazing, but it moisturizes, adds shine and helps maintain healthy hair.

FOOD

Caesar salads are my go-to lunch entrée or side item for dinner. As if whipping up a salad is not already quick enough, Trader Joe’s has made it even easier. This Caesar salad set comes with lettuce, croutons, parmesan cheese and the perfect amount of dressing. All you have to do is put it in a container, shake it up and it’s ready to go at any time.

ODDS AND ENDS

The Bergamot Waters candle from Bath and Body Works is a divine and relaxing scent that is perfect for a chill day. This is also a great scent to have in the background for when you have company over.

MUSIC

Oh Wonder has recently become my obsession. They are a London-based duo that creates beautiful, chill music with incredibly meaningful lyrics. Their voices blend together perfectly and I am incredibly disappointed they will be having a concert in Madison after I move. Songs to check out include (all of them), but if I must pick start with Technicolour Beat and White Blood.

Can’t Say You Won’t by Korbee manages to always get me feeling emotional. After seeing it featured in Claudia Sulewski’s night time routine video, I fell in love and it just does not get old.

I have had 143 by Johnny Rain on repeat this month. This song switches from slow ballad to a more upbeat jam during the chorus and then it slows again, but it actually works really, really well.

If you enjoy my music taste, check out my “Springtime ’16” playlist on Spotify (currently a work in progress).

As the “madness of March” winds to a close, make sure to take time for yourself to breathe and relax. Catch you all for more favorites action next month! On a side note, make sure to check out the Facebook page for Off Duty / On Style and give it a like at this link!
